nook glowlight 3 not recognized by computer

My computer is not recognizing my nook when I plug it in? The cables all charge the Nook but the computer won't recognize it is plugged in. I have a nook glowlight plus and my computer won't recognize the device. Digital Editions will not recognize it. Adding the AdobeID made it come up. I was having trouble downloading to the Nook, so I deregistered and registered it again. Go to "My Computer" (or the equivalent on your PC or MAC). It seems that the more sophisticated devices do not work. Until a couple of days ago when I downloaded a book to my Nook using ADE as always, everything was fine.
